Goal-aware AI and website blockers: when to use each

Some distractions are always off-limits. Others depend on what you are trying to do. A useful focus setup can handle both.

The same website can serve different purposes

A tutorial may help you prepare a presentation; an unrelated feed on the same website may pull you away. A domain blocklist alone does not express that distinction. Goal-aware classification uses your stated task and available browser context to judge relevance. It is helpful when you need room to research, but it can make mistakes.

Use explicit rules for clear boundaries

If you already know a site should be unavailable, an explicit block rule is easier to predict than asking AI each time. In Meoz, custom Blocked During Focus lists are a Pro feature and apply during focus. Built-in Default network protection is available in Free; custom network lists require Pro.

Applied network protection is system-wide and remains relevant outside focus sessions. It needs an explicit apply action and administrator authorization. Do not confuse it with a session-only list, or assume every browser configuration is impossible to bypass.

Choose the response, not just the detection

Meoz offers Gentle Companion, Smart Context and Deep Lockdown profiles. Depending on content and configuration, it can use reminders and browser-tab intervention. Free/BYOK also supports these profiles. Pro's Session Lock and Commitment Lock are additional controls that restrict changing or ending focus; they are separate from choosing a strictness profile.

Keep a way to correct mistakes

Write a specific goal and use an appeal when relevant research is flagged. An unreadable browser page or unavailable AI provider should be resolved through the app's permission or provider guidance. Neither state proves that the page is relevant. For native apps, Meoz uses reminders rather than force-quitting documents.

Start small

Choose a typical task, keep required reference sites available, and observe a short session before adding stronger constraints. You can hide the cat or its banners without ending the focus session. Pick the visual style and intervention level that help you return to the work, then review what actually worked for you.
