Use Meoz's Free AI with your own key (BYOK)

Meoz Free includes goal-aware AI classification. Bring your own key (BYOK) means connecting a supported AI provider yourself, instead of using Meoz Pro's managed AI.

Before you start

You need macOS 14 or later and a supported provider configuration. An API account is not necessarily the same as a consumer chatbot subscription. Check the provider's current API access, billing, limits and data policy. Do not assume a free quota is available or permanent.

Connect your provider

Open Meoz Settings and find the AI provider controls. Choose the provider you intend to use, enter its API key where required, and select a supported model. A compatible local provider needs its local service and model available. Never paste keys into a goal, task, screenshot or support message.

Grant the permissions Meoz requests for supported browser access. Then set a concrete goal, such as drafting a report, and start a focus session. Confirm the provider is ready and that browser context is readable; a missing permission or failed request is not evidence that a page is on-topic.

What stays free?

The Guardian can evaluate supported browser context against your goal with BYOK. You can choose the strictness profile, use Scheduled or Flex Sessions, and configure the companion's visibility. Model quality, latency and provider availability affect the experience.

Pro adds managed AI, focus locks, detailed analytics and custom blocking controls. Free includes the Network Blocker's built-in Default protection; custom Blocked During Focus and custom network lists need Pro. The pricing section lists the current plan boundary.

Where does the data go?

With a cloud BYOK provider, relevant context is sent directly from the app to that provider. Meoz does not route Free/BYOK requests through its Pro gateway. A compatible local provider is a separate option. Analytics remain on your Mac; no screenshots are taken for browser judging. Review the Privacy Policy and your provider's policy before using sensitive content.

If classification does not work

Check the selected provider, API key and model first, then network access and the provider's quota. Follow any permission warning shown by Meoz. If you contact support, include the app version and the error message after removing sensitive details. Never share your API key. For an incorrect classification, clarify your goal and use the available appeal controls.
