# Start your first focus session

Install Meoz, choose your AI setup and give your next session a clear goal.

For Meoz 1.1.334 · macOS

Meoz is a focus companion for macOS 14 or later. Start with one concrete piece of work and a session you can comfortably finish.

## Install and open Meoz

- [Download Meoz](/download), open the disk image and move the app to Applications.
- Open Meoz and follow the onboarding instructions.
- Choose an AI setup: your own provider key, a compatible local model, or Meoz Pro. [Compare the options](/docs/plans-and-privacy).

## Start with a clear goal

Open the cat menu or menu bar and choose **Start Focus Now**. Choose a duration or **Until I stop**, then describe what you want to do. “Draft the report introduction” gives more direction than “Work.”

If you already have a task, choose **Choose from Tasks**, then **Use for Goal** on the task you want. Confirm the selection when you return to the Goal window. For a new goal, **Also add to Today’s tasks** is optional. [Learn about goals and tasks](/docs/tasks-and-goals).

## Check that Guardian is ready

Follow the permission guidance shown by Meoz for your current browser. Browser access and AI readiness are separate: **a running timer does not prove that Guardian can read or judge the current page**.

Open the resource you need and check the displayed Guardian status. If it cannot read the page or connect to AI, use [the recovery guide](/docs/troubleshooting).

## Make it comfortable

Use **Cat Widget** controls to adjust the companion's size, theme and text size, or hide it. [Customize your companion](/docs/cat-widget). When you finish, use **End This Session**. If you enabled a lock, review its restrictions before starting; ending may be unavailable until the lock ends.

Next: [set up a focus routine](/docs/sessions).
